Vanessa Woods of
One of my favorite authors, CS Lewis, once penned, "Your never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream." However, these dreams you may not be able to discover on your own. Often in life we need others to inspire us to dream bigger or push ourselves to reach beyond our perceived potential. And that's exactly where Vanessa Woods steps in.
Meet Vanessa Woods, who inspires adults ages 50 & older to not only believe, but experience a simple truth, that everyone can dance. As the founder & owner of Vitality Ballet , Vanessa & her team of over 10 instructors, visit 60 Senior Facilities in the St. Louis area, teaching about 120 classes each month.
Using her background as a professional ballerina with St. Louis Ballet, Vanessa created an array of ballet exercises to fill Vitality Ballet's class repertoire. There are series of seated port de bras and leg movements, as well as exercises that can be done using the chair as a ballet barre. With every class, Vitality Ballet emphasizes posture, coordination, breath of movement, memorization, & artistry, fully embodying their motto "Wellness at every stage of life".
The testimonials found on Vitality Ballet's webpage bring me just as much joy as these photos do:
“This class rejuvenates me. It makes me more sure of myself. It makes me feel good inside.”
Hesper, 94 : Garden Villas West
“This class makes me aware of my posture. I love the discipline. Ballet makes me feel like I’m flowing in the air.”
Marge Dougherty, 90 : Friendship Village Chesterfield Care Center
“I come to be with my friends.”
Rosela Fiedler, 83 : The Fountains
Wellness is not a number or a "look". Better yet, wellness is so often wrapped up in how we feel. I greatly admire that through Vitality Ballet, Vanessa instills immeasurable joy & empowerment, making her students feel confident & enriched with each class they participate in.
